Hello Kitty Hacksaw owes much to Dada, an art movement that explored irrationality, incongruity, and irreverence. An ordinary hacksaw has been modified with a blade so short it has been rendered practically useless. A carved handle from laminated hard woods was added. The final "icing on the cake" is the addition of the enameled "Hello Kitty" heads, adornments made for children, who have no use for a hacksaw. The juxtaposition of the useful and the useless, the old and new, and the manipulation of a tool intended for adults is now adorned with childish symbols. An object, once functional, is now an object of art.
