FOR JAZZY
9 X 8 X 7 INCHES, WOOD AND CERAMICS

Picture
This fortress-like wooden structure encompasses an elongated pyramid with an ancient Aztec influence. It is dedicated to my beagle, Jazzy, who passed away during the construction of this piece. Jazzy was 17 years old when she died and had lost much of her sight and hearing. But perhaps most debilitating was her inability to walk backwards or turn around in a small space. Late at night she would sometimes walk into a corner and start howling because she was stuck. Often I would have to go pick her up and turn her around in the middle of the night. Perhaps she felt "boxed in" like the pyramid in this piece. Although she started out as my daughter's pet, she eventually became my responsibility and companion, as many pets do. I loved her and named this sculpture in her honor.
