CATFISH BANJO
I began playing the 5-string banjo at about age 14 and it is still my favorite instrument to play. Although the hardware on this banjo was purchased, the rest was fashioned by hand, including the carving on the top and bottom of the back of the neck. The mother-of-pearl inlay fret markings are inspired by a ying-yang sign thus illustrating my attraction for both contemporary and traditional music. "Catfish" was a nickname I acquired while playing in a cover band, so I used that image in the mother-of-pearl catfish on the headstock and the smaller one high on the fretboard where it attaches to the body. I also replicated the catfish motif with a large airbrushed catfish on the back of the resonator.
